Affinity Group of the Year: Sports Task Force
AAJA's Sports Task Force was founded to provide mentorship, professional development and networking opportunities to fellow AAPI sports journalists, student journalists and supporters. It is led by co-founders Carolyn Hong and Victoria Lim, chairperson Josh Tolentino, and an all-star executive board.
ABOUT THE WINNER: AAJA's Sports Task Force now awards up to $20,000 in yearly financial aid, including annual scholarships that honor some of our industry's most influential members. The STF also partners with some of the biggest organizations in sports media, including Disney/ESPN and WarnerMedia Turner Sports/Bleacher Report, to help offer annual internships to rising stars and emerging students.
The award recognizes the STF’s broad contributions to AAJA; the group has helped bring in Convention keynote speakers such as writer Eddie Huang, NBA executive Rich Cho, and producer-director Melvin Mar. Its social events, including the KBBQ fundraiser and STF Summer Jam, have transformed into must-attend-events at every convention – with all funds funneled directly back toward founding goals.
