Chapter Leadership of the Year:
AAJA Philadelphia

ABOUT THE WINNER: Formerly called Chapter President of the Year, this award honors the dedication and teamwork that allows chapters to flourish. Yet nominators focused on AAJA Philadelphia chapter president, Jingyao Yu, who is program manager for community engagement at Resolve Philadelphia.

“Jingyao Yu has taken our Philadelphia chapter of AAJA to the next level by engaging members and attracting new ones with innovative and thoughtful programming, sharing information on everything from stories to scholarships, and providing even individual support,” a nominator wrote.

“A recent example is when I reached out to Jingyao with some urgent reporting questions as the Monterey Park tragedy was unfolding. Jingyao responded immediately and helped guide me through. Jingyao leads with courage, and compassion and our chapter is the better for it.”

AAJA-Philadelphia proudly supports Asian American and Pacific Islander journalists in the greater Philadelphia region, which includes portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. We offer opportunities to network with other Asian American media professionals as well as job listings, scholarships and other resources for both students and professionals. Additionally, we advocate against stereotypical or discriminatory coverage of AAPI communities in local media.
