Leadership in Diversity & Solidarity:
James Salanga and Gabe Schneider

James Salanga is the co-director of The Objective, a newsroom founded in 2020 that publishes reporting and commentary about how race, gender, and other facets of identity affect what stories are told in newsrooms and who has the power to tell them. Previously, they were an audio producer and reporter across The Sick Times and two California public radio stations, and are a Next Generation Radio and AIR New Voices alum. They are a Filipino and Chinese writer raised by the California Central Valley whose journalism has been informed by writers like Alice Wong committed to disability justice, the wisdom of their queer and trans peers and elders, the tradition of movement journalists — from Ida B. Wells to Palestinian reporters in Gaza — and all journalists who see their craft as part of a lineage of truth-telling toward a more liberated and equitable world.

Gabe Schneider is a reporter and editor based in LA. He is a co-founder of The Objective, a publication that examines systems of power and inequity in journalism, as well as a director of growth at LA Public Press.
